Wow, people must be praying! Elena has been running fevers all week, so they were going to admit her this week instead. This morning the doctor called to say that the hospital ward is overcrowded, so they may not admit Elena at all now. Instead, they are thinking they will put her on really strong oral antibiotics for 21 days, and play it by ear. Monday, we have to go in as planned, ready to be admitted if there is room on the ward, but sent home if it is crowded. If that happens, then they will bring her in every two weeks for a while to check her PFTs (pulmonary function test). Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that Elena may not be admitted afterall now (yay!). I will get back to you after Monday's visit. Thanks for your prayers and support. With love, Amelia
Elena Update from her Mom

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for praying for Elena. She did end up getting admitted, but all is well. We found out yesterday that her liver enzymes have been normal for a while now, so they are taking her off the liver medicine to see how it goes (praise the Lord, praise the Lord!!!).
We don’t know how long she’ll have to be here, but will let you know when she is out.
Blessings and love to all,
Amelia
Hi there,
I just wanted to let everyone know that Elena is out of the hospital now. She had some great improvement pulmonary-wise, and she also gained 3 kilos. She feels much better. Thanks so much for your prayers. We couldn’t have done it without all of the support we received.
With love and gratefulness,
Horace and Amelia Avila
Hi,
It’s been a while, but I thought it would be good to update what’s going on with Elena as of late. She’s been doing really well, for the most part. She has an opportunity to participate in clinical trials for a new medicine that has had promising results. Her pulmonary function test (PFTs) have stayed at around 85% since last year after her hospitalization, and she has grown quite a bit, too. She was supposed to start the clinical trials a couple of weeks ago, but her PFTs fell down to 72% (below the required 75% minimum). She’s been on antibiotics and extra therapy, so they will try again in March… So that’s pretty much it in a nutshell. Your prayers are much appreciated.
With much love,
Amelia (Elena’s mom)
We are so happy to hear that. We will continue to push through for a full restoration of Elena’s health. A special hug for her!
We love you guys!
